Arctic Train and night sky Snowmobile Experience

An evening snowmobile adventure with the Arctic Train from Narvik

The tour starts in Narvik, where you embark on board of the Arctic Train, Norway’s northernmost railway with fascinating history. The train will take you all the way to Björkliden in Sweden, where you will meet your certified guide to take you on an exciting snowmobile ride a bit up on the bare mountain where the conditions for a spectacle of the polar night’s phenomenon occur best.

Practical information

You need either a driver’s license for snowmobiles or a driver’s license class B (normal car) to be allowed to drive. Passengers do not need a driver’s license.

Maximum 1 child (5-15 years) per adult.

Parking is available to additional cost near Narvik station.

There are days when the weather does not allow us to drive up the mountain. The tour will still be possible but in more protected terrain.

The snowmobile experience

After safety and driving instructions, you will head out into the cold dark night, with the lights of the snowmobiles illuminating the trail as you drive. Where the guide considers it a suitable place to stay protected from the weather and wind, you will park the snowmobiles and enjoy a snack and hot drink by the crackling fire. While you watch the night sky, your guide will entertain you with stories of the Aurora.

After the snowmobile ride, the Arctic Train will take you back to Norway.

About Björkliden

Abisko / Björkliden has a history of Sami culture as the area has been their home for millennia. Where they lived in a Sami traditional way by nature, side by side with the reindeer. 120 years ago, the railway paved the way for the transport of quality iron ore from Kiruna, as well as visitors from all over the world.

The area is a place right into the mountain world, where the seasons make a big impression on nature. Magnificent views, beautiful mountain lakes and waterfalls that freeze to ice during the low temperatures of the winter. The thin crooked mountain birches in the valleys show the character of a tough life in a though environment.

The magic of the place is the simplicity that prevails in combination with the fantastic light phenomena that reflect the sky during the year. Long polar winter nights with deep starry skies, moonlight, aurora borealis, twilight and the morning dusk. Long polar days of summer with midnight sun of beautiful contrasts that become visible during the 24 hours of the day.

In the area you will find Abisko National Park, and Abisko Visitor’s Center. The world-famous Kungsleden, a 450 km long ski and hiking trail, begins here.
