The Royal Postal Road

The Nærøyfjord is a hidden wilderness gem. One of the best ways to get close to the fjord is walking along the old Royal Postal Road between Bleiklindi and Styvi. The path follows the fjord from Bleiklindi, a place named after the large and pale coloured linden tree there, and was part of the old postal route between Bergen and Oslo. In winter when the ice on the fjord was unsure, the post men coming from Voss and Gudvangen would cross the fjord from the small village of Bakka over to Bleiklindi and continue on this path to Styvi farm. Styvi was a post farm, which meant that they delivered the mail further to Lærdal by boat.

The path is approx. 5,5 kilometres long and is an easy and idyllic walk. It leads you past steep mountain sides that rise straight up from the fjord, beautiful rock walls, wild valleys, and scenic waterfalls. You might even spot seals or porpoises along the way.

Fjord Cruise Nærøyfjord

From Styvi back to Flåm you get to experience a fjord cruise with a premium, full electrical vessel. The boat sails silent on battery power through the untouched fjord landscapes. Get yourself some refreshments from the kiosk on board and admire the views from a different angle. Weather you choose to relax in the lounges inside or from the walkways inspired by the winding trails of steep mountains, is up to you. The fjord cruise on the Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord is the perfect end to the scenic day trip.
