Staying at Hotel Utsikten you can wake up to a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord. Located at the top of Geiranger, only 200 metres from Flydalsjuvet viewpoint, the historical hotel has welcomed guests since 1893.

Historical Hotel Utsikten

Geiranger is a well-known tourist destination in Norway, and the first tourists came as early as in 1869 when the first tourist yacht, Nereid, arrived. Hotel Utsikten was part of a rapid development of the village when it opened in 1893. Among others, emperor Wilhelm II stayed here several times.

The hotel has been rebuilt and expanded several times since it opened. Now it has a total of 29 rooms in various categories, all with beautiful views towards either the garden or the fjord.

Restaurant Utsikten

The restaurant is located on the first floor with a beautiful view over Geiranger and space for up to 70 guests. The menu is based on local dishes and ingredients that are carefully selected from seasonal local produce, such as fresh fish and vegetables, locally produced meat and cheese, and hand-picked berries from the surrounding mountains.

Opening hours: 18:00 – 21:00.

Rooms

There are only 29 rooms in the hotel, which gives a feeling of privacy. Each of the charming rooms has its own touch and distinctive character. All of them are equipped with comfortable beds, coffee machines and free WiFi available. Many of the rooms offer stunning fjord views which you will never forget. None of the rooms have TV’s.

Double rooms: There are 19 double rooms offering either fjord or garden views. Rooms with fjord views are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Note: extra beds are not possible.

Single rooms: There are 5 single rooms, all with views towards Geiranger and the fjord.

Family rooms: The 5 family rooms offer either garden or fjord view, and have a single bed, a double bed and a double convertible sofa bed.

Parking: Free parking by the hotel.
Electric cars: There are no charging stations by the hotel, but the hotel can provide a power cord to charge one car per day.

Accessibility: Unfortunately Hotel Usikten is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. All rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors without elevator available.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed to an additional cost of NOK 250,- per night.

Routes to Geiranger:

There are three arrival routes to Geiranger:

Via Ørnesvingene: Are you driving from north you can get the ferry from Linge to Eidsdal and continue on Fv 63 to Geiranger. Du will pass Ørnesvingen viewpoint on your way down the hairpin turns to the town centre.

On a Norwegian Scenic Route: Are you arriving on Rv 15 from Gudbrandsdalen in east, you can drive onto Fv 63 just after Grotli. This is a Scenic Route which is closed in winter, so make sure it is open before going. On this road you can take a small detour to the viewpoint Dalsnibba and stop by Flydalsjuvet viewpoint near the hotel. This route can also be taken from Stryn.

Through the Geirangerfjord: If you are driving from the south or west, you can take the fjord cruise ferry from Hellesylt through the Geirangerfjord to Geiranger centre. Book tickets for the fjord cuise here.
