“Many still don't realize how many lakes and rivers we have here and how spoiled we are with high-quality fish,” Ingvild explains.
She has been fishing since she was five, but it wasn't until 2009 that she tried fly fishing. Since then, Ingvild has won multiple national championships, competed in European and World Championships, and became the first female certified fly casting instructor through the Norwegian Association of Hunters and Anglers (NJFF).
Ingvild grew up on a farm in Ulvik with the river right outside her front door, and river fishing has remained her favourite activity.
“Being in the middle of the river surrounded by flowing water and looking for rises to cast at is exciting.” She adds, "Fly fishing is as much about observation and finding peace as it is about technique and knowledge.”
“The experience is very visual; you see everything as it happens. With clear water and fish jumping, making precise casts to present the fly convincingly as a natural insect becomes crucial. Timing is everything, says Ingvild.

“The cool thing about fly fishing is that it doesn't really depend on the weather; you can easily adjust your approach. Whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down doesn't greatly affect your chances of catching fish, particularly if you understand insect life and fish behaviour in various conditions. Even when the fish aren't biting, creativity can make all the difference," Ingvild adds enthusiastically.
