Meet Polar Park's Stars: Siblings Salt and Pepper

2 min read

Reading progress

Polar Park is home to many fascinating animals, but few steal the show like our two famous bears, Salt and Pepper. These brown bear siblings hold a very special place in the hearts of both our staff and visitors, and for good reason.

From TV Stars to the Heart of the Park

Salt and Pepper became famous through TV programmes and documentaries, where their unique traits and charming personalities made them firm favourites with the public. Today, they are icons of Polar Park and live in our large, natural bear enclosure, where they can climb, explore and live as bears should, with a little extra attention from their many admirers.

A Unique Brother-and-Sister Duo

Salt and Pepper are brown bears born here in the park. They are not quite like other brown bears, they are both special in their own way.

Salt, the sister, is an albino bear, making her exceptionally rare and unique. Her pale fur and striking features give her an almost magical appearance. She is curious, adventurous and loves being the centre of attention. She may not see very well, but her hearing is excellent. Salt is also rather lazy, it is always Pepper who has to get the winter den ready for them both.

Pepper, her brother, has more traditional brown bear colouring and a calm, relaxed personality. He likes to take life easy, but he also has his mischievous moments, especially when he and Salt play together. He also loves blowing bubbles in the pond while he bathes. And although he is a big, tough brown bear, he is afraid of wasps.

Together, they are a wonderful duo that shows both the contrast and the connection between their different personalities. Salt and Pepper can often be seen playing together, exploring their spacious enclosure or bathing in the pond.
