Sightseeing tour to Stegastein viewpoint
With several daily departures through the year, this tour is the most conveniente way to reach Stegastein. The trip from Flåm or Aurland gives you around 30 minutes at the viewpoint — just the right amount of time to explore and take photos without waiting around. All guests receive a free audio guide for the drive, offering valuable insight into Aurland and the places you pass along the way.
Stegastein is one of those places you simply must visit when you are in Flåm, Aurland, or Lærdal. Built in 2006, Stegastein was designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen as part of the National Tourist Routes project. The viewpoint sits 650 metres above the Aurlandsfjord, is made of steel clad with pine, extends 30 metres out from the mountainside, and is 3.3 metres wide. It is a great example of how modern architecture can be integrated into natural landscapes.

Part of the National Tourist Routes
The National Tourist Routes are a collection of 18 roads across Norway that offer unique views, many of them former main roads across mountain passes. One of these routes passes by Stegastein, crossing the Aurlandsfjellet between Lærdal and Aurland. The National Tourist Routes also feature innovative architecture, art installations, viewpoints, and rest areas.
Challenging driving conditions
In summer, this narrow and steep road winding up the mountainside from Aurlandsvangen often experiences heavy traffic. In winter, driving conditions become particularly challenging with ice, snow, and a seasonal closure of the mountain road. Joining a sightseeing tour allows you to enjoy the scenery instead of worrying about the drive.
