Traditional Christmas party at Fretheim Hotel

On the weekends of 28–29 November 2025 and 12–13 December 2025, Fretheim Hotel serves its traditional Christmas buffet. You’ll be greeted with a wonderful spread of both hot and cold dishes. Most of the ingredients come from local suppliers, and the kitchen conjures up dishes that bring out the true taste and scent of Christmas.

After dinner, the evening continues with live music and dancing as troubadour Heine Salbu performs in the Fretheim Hall. There will also be bar service and plenty of opportunity to sit down and chat between dance sessions.

The Flåm Railway: Christmas edition

The weekend of 6–7 December 2025 is dedicated to children. Both Saturday and Sunday you can join Santa on the Flåm Railway, a cosy pre-Christmas tradition for many.

Both days, Fretheim Hotel invites you to the Family Christmas Buffet after your train ride. From 1:30 PM, delicious Christmas food will be served for both adults and children, with a dedicated buffet for the little ones. As usual, children can take part in Christmas crafts after eating — and maybe Santa will stop by there too!

If you’ve joined the Santa Train on the Flåm Railway earlier in the day, you’ll receive a 20% discount on the Family Christmas Buffet when showing your ticket.

Christmas Market & Children's Theatre in Flåm

On Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14, you can do your Christmas shopping while supporting local vendors offering food, handicrafts, and beautiful gifts. There will be activities for all ages and a celebration of Saint Lucia.

On Saturday, you can experience the theatre performance Lussi Langnatt – inspired by old legends about the darkest night of the year. The performance tells the story of Lussi with humor and magic, reminding us of both darkness and light during the Advent season.

A magical weekend for the whole family!

White Christmas in Myrkdalen

Let’s be honest, Flåm and the fjord can’t always promise lots of snow. But just a 45-minute drive away lies Myrkdalen, one of Norway’s most snow-sure destinations. Here you’ll find Western Norway’s most complete ski resort, with slopes for all levels, cross-country trails, and fantastic off-piste terrain.

Myrkdalen Hotel offers great dining experiences, and for those not into skiing, there are other fun activities such as sleigh rides. On selected days, you can even try dog sledding! Every afternoon during the season, Myrkdalen Aktiv hosts tobogganing trips with snowracers from the top of the Myrkdalsekspressen chairlift, a thrilling and fun way to end your day on the slopes.
